Options For Domain Name Registration

domain name registration

If you are thinking of starting a new business or any other type of website you will need to register a domain name. There are a few registrars out there such as Name Cheap for one.

As well most web hosting services will offer domain name registration. Be sure to check on the cost. Prices vary quite a bit online for the same service.

Choosing A Domain Name

Choosing a domain name is important especially if you want to establish a brand or presence online. Additionally when people see your domain it should reflect what you and your business are all about. Having said that, getting that unique and special domain name may not be as easy as you might think. Furthermore people make good money by registering domain names then flipping them. Some domains are for sale for thousands of dollars.

Your first task is to come up with a large list of domains that you would be satisfied with. One positive is that you now have many more extension options, other than .com, or .net, to choose from. In recent years, to reflect the variety of business and organization types online, many more extensions have been added.

Finding A Registrar

You can go to Name Cheap and try different domains until you find a combination that suits your needs. In addition it costs nothing to try different domain name options. Furthermore, once you find one that you are satisfied with, you can also shop around for pricing.

You really have two options when registering a domain name.

Domain Registrars

You choose to buy a web hosting package from a registrar. Most registrars such as Name Cheap will have hosting packages, email and WordPress options. Additionally if you choose this option you can do everything form one platform. Furthermore you can get a free domain registration with a hosting package.

Template Providers

You can choose to use “do it yourself” providers. Providers such as Squarespace provide all in one services. The downside may be that you will probably pay a higher monthly fee. It could be more expensive than registering your name and finding cheap hosting.

If you choose to find hosting elsewhere you will need to update what are called nameservers, and this is actually easy to do. Don’t be scared off, these tasks are easily done, even if you don’t have any tech experience. I have a full explanation of how to change nameservers here.

The bottom line is that you can register a domain name, secure web hosting and change nameservers yourself and have full control of those as well as saving on monthly budget costs.
